This position will be embedded inside the U.S. Attorney's Office Kansas District, Asset Forfeiture (AF) Unit, in Wichita, Kansas. This is a non-federal position and it does not confer status as a federal employee. The selected applicant will be an employee of the Office of the Kansas Attorney General’s (OAG) as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) position in the Civil Division. In addition to being an AAG with the OAG, the position will carry the designation of Special Assistant United States Attorney. This AAG position will be responsible for obtaining guidance and approval on the handling of assigned cases from OAG management. The individual selected to fill this position will investigate facts to determine if forfeiture is appropriate; litigate cases involving the forfeiture of assets seized as proceeds of illegal activities and/or money laundering activity; assist with efforts to ensure that forfeited assets are restored to victims; and handle the civil forfeiture of assets used to facilitate illegal activity such as drug trafficking. The position will maintain regular, accurate and complete reporting to the OAG on the status of asset forfeiture cases.
